2014 Was Pretty Sweet (Part 1)

My Little Family

Well folks, its the last day of 2014 and what an exciting, overwhelming year it was!!! This blog post is going to be a little different in terms of topics but I just wanted a place to document my year to look back on without clogging up your Facebook walls, (you're welcome!) So lets get this bad boy started shall we?!

January 2014

Adam and I were still in Texas from Christmas when we rang in the new year with some friends at Sherlocks Pub. Little did I know that the next day, after fighting ALL DAY over an outfit I was just not interested in wearing, that amazing man would be taking me to dinner at a steakhouse in Mansfield and popping the question! To which I replied a definite no since he wouldn't let me wear what I wanted! I kid, I kid. I of course said yes, and barely remember the entire thing because I was so stunned. Good news, Adam has a memory to rival that of an elephant's and he can recount the details a lot easier than me!

He asked, I said yes!
So in terms of Ryken I wish I would have done a better job of tracking how much he weighed each month but in my sleep deprevation I didn't. I do know that in January he turned 4 months old and was finally starting to fit into some newborn clothes!...OH side note, just found a post on Jan 22nd that said he was at 8.5 lbs!

February 2014

Oh February, you were NOT so kind. We were in Minnesota which should have been renamed to the arctic last year! We had a ridiculous amount of snow that just kept piling up. This was also the month were the young lady that decided to take a bunch of pain pills and speed down the ice covered roads and run a red light causing her to ricochet off another car into mine! YAY! Anyway here's a picture of the snow.

Ryken turned 5 months in February and it was also his first Valentines day, that little lady killer.

Oh St. Patty's Day, in 2013 this would have gone down as the last drinking extravaganza for me because I was soon going to find out I was preggo!! Anyway, it finally started warming up in March! 35 degrees feels like 90 when you've been living in the -30s for the past three months!

Ryken turned the BIG SIX months and again I have no idea what he weighed because I'm a bad mom! According to a post on Instagram he was starting to grow out of his newborn clothes!

April 2014

We moved to Texas!!! Sunshine and shorts weather! It was fantastic! We moved into my mom's house to give Adam some time to find a new job and then to find a house of our own. It was super sad having to leave all my friends I had made in Minnesota and of course my best friend but this southern girl could just not handle the snow anymore! Adam and I got to go on a little date night for the first time in a long time! And our little family attending the Hardin Wedding in Canton after visiting with one of my best friends Sarah in Henderson to see her new home!

In Ryken news, April 10th was National Sibling Day of course I had to get a picture of how much Big Fur Brother loves his little bro! Ryken tuned seven months in April and you guessed it, I have no idea how much he weighed here...fail.

May 2014

So as I'm going through all my posts from May apparently this was a CRAZY exciting month! I celebrated my first Mother's Day, Ryken had his first taste of big people food (avocado), he turned 8 months old and waaaaaaait for it...I HAVE A WEIGH IN!!! At 8 months old this crazy little man weighed 13.5lbs! Also, if I recall correctly this is the month that Adam found a job working at Lonestar Restaurant Supply, which was his favorite!  :)

June 2014

June seemed to be a JAMMED pack full month as well!! So many exciting things happening! Adam celebrated his first Father's Day, one of my best friends I mentioned above, Sarah, got hitched! Ryken explored other options of food and discovered he had a taste for eggs. Ryken also got to go swimming for the first time and absolutely loved it!! MOST important however was my birthday! I turned the big 2-6 on the 21st. We spent the first part of the day taking family pictures (One of them is at the top of this very long post) and then I spent the rest of the day with my family and out with a couple of friends that night. Ryken turned nine months and I've love to tell his stats but I have no idea :) Seeing a trend here?? Oh well, photo dump time!

Okay so originally I thought I would bust out the entire year in this post but this has gotten entirely too long already and we are only halfway through the year! Not to mention I've been working on it for two hours now and there is a screaming baby I need to go attend to in the other room!! Insanity Max:30 Week 1 & 2

Oh yes sir he is back and with a VENGEANCE! Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration. To be quite honest with y'all I don't know much about the original Insanity mostly because the very idea of it made me pee my pants a little in terror. 

To me the Insanity program was always the top of the line program I was striving to one day achieve. All I knew were the workouts were an hour long and A LOT of cardio. Cardio is NOT my jam. I can bust out a 5k after months of preparation and that's about the extent of that, so Insanity was a far off goal. But a lovely perk of being a beachbody coach is you are immersed in a world of no excuses, go-getters, and every single one of them were hyped up on this new Shaun T bandwagon about to return to town so I decided why the heck not?! This one was only 30 minutes 5 times a week PLUS there was a modifier! I bought my program and I.WAS.STOKED.

I patiently waited the arrived of my new god from the mailman and about a week before Christmas it arrived! I set to work making my meal plan (which I LOVE that this program also follows the 21 day fix containers), hung up my workout calendar in my new home gym my lovely fiance put together for me and got ready for my first day of workout on Monday the 15th.

I remember sliding that DVD into my player and walking back in the house and asking Adam; "Do you think I should just do the modifier or should I try the full out moves?" (There is the fancy little option of keeping the modifier on the screen the entire time on the main menu of the DVD) His reply was that I was in pretty decent shape so he didn't see why I couldn't do the full moves. HA! I was 3 minutes into the WARM UP and I was done, completely spent. You win Shaun T, you win. So needless to say I stuck with the modifier the rest of the week and I can promise you you will STILL get a VERY hard workout by doing that!

I did document my weekly reviews of the workouts on my YouTube channel, here is Day 1. If you are ever so interested in watching the rest they are all there lined up for you on the channel! 




The rest of my week went much better with starting with the modifier. My max out times ranged from 7:30-9:52 so I was pretty happy with those for my first week! Like I've said before Shaun T loves him some cardio so this program is definitely a challenge for me. My favorite so far is the Tabata Power workout because its more strength training and it works in intervals of 20 second of work and 10 seconds of rest so my max out times are better on those days than the just straight work for 5 mins before your water break! There are a lot squats, lunges, planks, tricep push-ups, tricep dips, etc so even with the modifier this is an intense program!

Friday is a workout called Friday Fight Round and this day is a balls to the walls, hold nothing back type of workout. Shaun T gets a little trash talky in this one! You are literally coached through like you are in boxing match and the opponents are all the people on the screen and you PUSH until you can push no harder! #DigDeep

All in all, I am seriously loving keeping track of my max out times. I probably would have quit by now if it weren't for the calendar staring at me in the face when I workout. Because I know that by looking at my max out time of 8:25 on my Sweat Interval day I know that I just need to push myself to AT LEAST 8:45 this time and I MAKE MYSELF DO IT! That is the key to this workout and it is SO crazy how much of a mind game it is! I am so excited to see how far I progress over the next 60 days!

Brazil Butt Lift, It's Done!

Okay folks! If you follow me on Facebook you know that I have ended my journey with Leonardo and his Brazil Butt Lift and have moved on the every so vigorous Shaun T and his new program Insanity Max 30. So lets get the run down of my feelings of the program and the ever so popular results!!

As I'm sure I've said before, BBL is a 60 day program that focuses MAINLY on the lower portion of the body as well as the core. What most people don't know is there is also a couple of full body workouts and cardio as well. I will tell you, the Bum Bum workout which is a full body cardio workout STILL kills me and I STILL have to take two breaks in the thirty minute workout. There are 6 different workouts that all range from 20 minutes to 45 minutes. The last two weeks of this program you are supposed to double up on the days so you have to allot about an hour to finish the designated workouts for the day.



So here's my confession: I got bored. I will say that I LOVED the results I was seeing even a few weeks into the program. My butt was gaining volume and my core was getting so strong. But the workouts just really got redundant. That and Leo sounds like Borat to me and after a few weeks I just couldn't listen to him anymore haha! I got to the point where I had done them so many times I memorized the flow of the moves and would mute him and watch my Netflix shows while I worked out. Which worked for me because otherwise I have NO time to catch up on my guilty pleasures like Parenthood, The L Word, and Scandal. So it was a win win for me! But like I said, he might have been annoying to listen to but dude guy KNOWS what works to get you the bikini ready body you want!!

As far as the nutrition went I did enjoy getting to try out some new recipes that come in the recipe book when you buy the program. I did incorporate my 21 Day Fix containers and calorie bracket that I used for that program into this one which I believe really helped me stay on track!  And, of course, I consistently drank my delicious Vegan Chocolate Shakeology every day! :)

The main thing I loved about this program was it gave me so much more knowledge on how to work different muscles that I never would have thought of before. Its so much more than just doing a bunch of squats. Leonardo has really come up with some amazing new innovated moves that hit all different kinds of angles that not only build up your booty muscles but lifts and chisels them out for you! SO with that said who wants to see some results?!

Calling all New Year's Resolutions!

EEEKKK!! Its almost the first of the year! Isn't that SO crazy!! I mean I feel like I blinked on Halloween and all of a sudden we are NINE days from Christmas! WHAT?! 2015 HERE WE COME!!! 

So along with the new year starting did you know the NUMBER ONE resolution people make is to lose weight, get in shape, start working out, eating better; something lead them down the path or looking and feeling healthier and better all around. So what are your options? Join a gym, pay extra for a personal trainer? What if I told you I have the solution for your resolutions that doesn't involve crazy crowded or over priced gyms and personal trainers? All you need is a laptop or DVD player, a little space in the house!

That's right working out in your OWN home on your OWN time! Seriously, that's all you need. I will provide the motivation, the support, the meal prepping tips, batch cooking tips, everything else you need all in my challenge group to keep you on track to meet those resolutions!!! Eating Clean: 21 Day Fix Approved Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken

I am loving finding all these new recipes to incorporate into the Fix!! These Broccoli and Cheese Stuffed Chicken breasts will account for 1 GREEN (broccoli), 1 BLUE (cheese), and 1 RED (chicken).

Healthy and Tasty!

Ingredients:

*Chicken Breast
*Mozzarella Cheese (shredded)
*Broccoli
*Any Seasonings you would like (I used garlic powder, sea salt, lemon pepper, and chili pepper)

Directions:
1. Slice your chicken breast in half
2. Sprinkle in your mozzarella cheese (if you are doing the fix leave enough to put on the top of the chicken breasts at well.
3. Add in your broccoli.
4. Fold chicken back over and place in a baking dish. Add your seasonings on top of the breasts
5. Bake in the oven at 350 for about 30-35 minutes.

I served my with some sweet potato fries, because lets face it, sweet potato fries are my JAM!

Halfway Point of Brazil Butt Lift

Alright guys, I'm super pumped to share my journey now that I'm halfway through my Brazil Butt Lift workout program!!

Adding Some Weight

I am loving the results I am seeing from this program! My jeans are fitting better and I'm actually starting to get some shape in my booty. For anyone that has known me in the past, I have always been much more, how should I say this, endowed on the top half of my body. As for my lower part, not so much. I started this program five weeks ago with a little bit more than what I started with just from previous programs like the Fix and PiYo. But only four weeks into BBL, which focuses so much on the lower part of your body I have seen TREMENDOUS change, especially in the clothes I've been wearing! Leonardo (the creator of the BBL) has come up with some really cool, innovated, moves that target areas of your hips, butt and thighs to get the muscles you wouldn't normally hit with just regular ole squats.

Even more, while 4 out of the 6 workouts are using your own body weight there is still some that you use weights to sculpt the rest. As well as, an AWESOME ab routine that is giving me awesome definition. When I started this program out I was using 5lb and 10lb weights to workout with and it was doing the job for sure! Now I have been able to move up to using 8lb and 12.5lb so I am DEFINITELY getting stronger!!

I have been doing pretty well with my eating by incorporating some of the yummy recipes that are provided when you purchase the challenge pack. But most of all I am still consistently drinking my Shakeology every single day. These workouts are pretty intense so I love that instead of chugging my three redbulls a day I am able to drink my chocolate Shakeo and it gives me all the energy I need to get through them! Plus it is keeping me out of all the holiday snacking I am quite fond of this time of the year!

Here is an example of the meal plan I have been using every week. I tend to stay pretty consistent with most of my meals and snacks except my dinners every week. For me its much easier on me and my pocket book when I'm grocery shopping. I have also been trying my best to stick with slow cooker meals for dinner since Adam is working nights and he's able to take what I'm making to work for lunch every night.

Now for what most of you are really interested in, how about a progress picture?! I didn't go all out with the picture taking just because its only the halfway point and I want it to really be a surprise when I take my final after pictures! But here is a little sneak of my progress so far!

Pretty good so far I'd say!! Now as we all know, Thanksgiving is on Thursday! I know I myself have ALWAYS had such a hard time with all the yummy food that will be at your fingertips all day. Here are some of my tips I am going to be using this week! 

*DO MY WORKOUTS!! Maybe even an extra one the day before and after
*USE MY PORTION CONTROL! Your eyes tend to always be bigger than your stomach but yet you feel compelled to eat every thing on your plate. On your first round try to get just a little bit of all the things you want. Eat that. Then if you think you still want a little bit more go back BUT JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE
*Try to substitute out some things for healthier options (I have a bunch of healthier options for some staple Thanksgiving food recipes on my Facebook page at Facebook.com/ShimmerMeFit)
*Don't graze the appetizers, instead focus on just enjoying the company of your family!

Obviously we are not trying to lose weight during this holiday season but we definitely are not trying to throw all our hard work all year long out the window either! Eating Clean: 21 Day Fix Crock Pot Chicken Tacos

I am seriously DIGGING all these crock pot meals for the Fix!! I am so sad I didn't have these around in my beginning rounds!! Here it is folks:

So YUM!


21 Day Fix Crock Pot Chicken Tacos:
Ingredients:
*1 lb of Chicken Breasts
*1 Jar Clean Salsa
*1 Pack of Low Sodium Taco Mix
*Corn Tortillas
*Shredded Cheese
*Greek Yogurt
*Romaine Lettuce

Directions:
1. Place chicken breasts, salsa, and taco mix in the crock pot and cook on low for 3-4 hours.
2. Heat corn tortillas on stove or in the oven (I did mine for about 5 mins at 350 degrees)
3. Add your toppings 

For two tacos this will measure out for 1 RED(chicken), 1 BLUE(cheese), 1 GREEN(Lettuce), 1/2 RED(if you choose to use Greek Yogurt).

Eating Clean: Pulled Pork Sandwiches

I have been on a slow cooker kick lately. I mean who doesn't love a meal that practically cooks itself while you go about your day?! Its also convenient for us because Adam works nights and it allows him to have something besides a turkey sandwich to take with him for his "lunch break" Thus I present to you: Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sandwiches! Which are most definitely 21 Day Fix approved!

Ingredients:
* Pork Loin
* 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
* 1/2 cup water
* 1 cup of chopped onions and mushrooms
* 1 tsp cayenne pepper
* 1 tbsp garlic powder
* 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
* 1/4 cup yellow mustard
* 1 whole wheat bun or roll

Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients except the red wine vinegar and yellow mustard.
2. Cook on low for 7-8 hours
3. Shred the pork and stir in the red wine vinegar and yellow mustard.
4. Serve on whole wheat bun and enjoy!

Alright so if none of you have heard on Facebook, I started the Brazil Butt Lift about four weeks ago. It was on sale a few months ago and I had always wanted to try it out so I snatched it up.  After finishing an additional round of the 21 Day Fix, going out of town to Minnesota for a wedding, and jumping back on track with the 3 Day Refresh I needed something new to get me motivated again! 

When you get your Brazil Butt Lift (BBL) you get your workout calendar, five workouts, a "secret weapon" workout, and a recipe booklet to help you stay on track with your fitness, as well as note cards of all of your workouts for easy, on-the-go workouts so you don't have to worry about figuring out where to get your DVD to play when you are on vacation or something! 

First things first, I drew up my menu plan for the week:

The dinners and some of the lunch I have laid out here are pulled out of the recipe booklet I got with my challenge pack. They were quite delicious!

Healthiest Meal of the Day!

When you get started there are four different workout calendars to chose from that will focus more on certain parts of your lower body depending on what you need. There's Classic (for all butt types), Volumizer (to make your booty bigger), Lift (if you need a little pick me up), and Slim (if you need to whittle down a little bit!) Since its a 8 week program I decided to go with Volumizer for the first 4 weeks and then move to Lift for the last 4 week because we all know homegirl over here needs a little more junk in the trunk!

First workout of the entire program, Bum Bum. I am going to be 100% honest here, IT SUCKED!! Oh my gosh it was awful! I was almost to the point of being 10 mins into this half hour workout and calling it quits and returning the whole program, IT WAS THAT HARD!! The idea of the workout is a lot like the Total Body Cardio Fix that is the first Fix workout it busts your booty and the rest of the week is not nearly as bad as that one workout. So I pushed through. Guys, I am four weeks into this and I still have to pause this workout every 10 minutes and take a break. But I get it done, that is the main point!

High & Tight is the next workout, this workout involves using the small yellow band that comes with the program to really zone in on all parts of your butt! This one is probably my favorite because it really works parts of my lower body I have never worked before.

Sculpt is the longest workout, its about 45 minutes long. This is the one that uses weights to hit all the muscles in your body I enjoy this workout too just because I like weight training. The length does get kind of tedious though, I got spoiled with the Fix workouts all being only 30 minutes long.

Cardio Axe is BY FAR my favorite cardio workout of all the programs I have tried out this far. Its a lot like Zumba which I love. You learn different dance segments and then put it all together at the end. It's a lot of fun and I don't hate it like I usually do. I actually get super excited when I see this workout on the calendar for the day!

Tummy Tuck gets added in a few times a week. This is a solid 20 minutes of pure ab work and let me tell you it KILLS! I am super pumped to see the difference in my abs when it comes time to take my after pictures!

Since this program is a 8 week program you are allotted a rest day every week. I like to bust out my Fix yoga workout on this day just to keep things moving!

All in all, only 4 weeks in I can already tell a difference in how my lower body and core are looking. This program makes you do the work, but you get a good sense of satisfaction because only a week in and you can start seeing results!!

Eating Clean: Tex Mex Sweet Potato Skillet

Okay so I've been slacking on my blogging game! No worries though, I have a few ideas up my sleeve to hammer out some posts over the next few days or so! In the meantime I wanted to share this new recipe with you! I love trying out new recipes, its actually rare that I'll cook the same thing twice because I just like experimenting. This stuff though, I will be making it again, and again, and probably again. Introducing:

Sweet Potatoes for Mexican Food?! Oh yeah! 

Ingredients:
1 lb sweet potatoes, cubed. I used 1 and 1/2 medium sized and it was plenty!
1 small onion, chopped
2 large garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 large red bell peppers, diced
14 oz can black beans, drained & rinsed (I don't like beans so I skipped this)
1 cup corn (frozen or canned is OK)
14 oz can diced tomatoes
1 tbsp cumin, divided
1/2 tbsp all-natural taco seasoning, divided
1 tsp salt, divided
1/2 lime, juice of
1 cup (4 oz) Cheddar cheese, shredded
2 medium avocados, diced
Non-fat Greek yogurt & salsa, for garnish (optional)

Directions:
1. Preheat large deep skillet on medium heat and add coconut oil, spreading with spatula. Add sweet potatoes, 1/2 tbsp cumin, 1/2 tsp salt and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add onion, garlic, bell peppers and cook for another 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add black beans and corn, cook for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2. Add diced tomatoes, remaining cumin and salt, black pepper, taco seasoning and stir. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and cook covered for 15 minutes or until potatoes are soft. Squeeze lime juice on top, sprinkle with cheese and broil on high for 5 minutes or until cheese turns golden. 

I added chopped up some avocado and threw that into it and put some dabs of Greek yogurt on top!

This makes a ton of food that will easily feed the whole family! I actually made it Sunday night and threw it in a tuberware in the fridge and ate it for dinner all this week! Adam even had some of it as well and it lasted me 4 days! As you noticed there is no meat in it so of course there's always the option of cooking up some chicken in the oven and chopping it up and throw it in after its cooked! I loved that it was a quick meal I made after I put Ryken down for the night and it saved me time throughout the week for dinners!

So as I said in my last post I went out of town last weekend for a wedding and while I tried my best to stay somewhat on track, obviously there were some more snacking and drinking than I usually partake in! I felt pretty blah and bloated when I got home, so to kick my booty back into gear I decided to do the 3 Day Refresh on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 

What is the Refresh exactly? It's essentially a cleanse. But what is nice about this product is, unlike things like juice cleanses, you are still getting all the nutrition your body needs. So its a much healthier alternative!

What does a day in the cleanse look like? You drink your Shakeology in the morning with a serving of the fruit that it lists in the book for breakfast. For you mid morning snack you drink your fiber drink with water. Lunch is the Vanilla Fresh shake with a serving of fruit, veggies, and a healthy fat. You get another snack in the afternoon of a veggie and healthy fat. Dinner is another Vanilla Fresh shake with a dinner recipe that you choose from the book. You can drink green tea, but you are supposed to drink A BUNCH of water throughout the day to help with the fiber! You are cutting out all processed foods, canned fruits veggies, and dairy.

The most popular question I get about this product is am I going to LIVE in the bathroom the whole time? The answer is absolutely not! The only think you could possibly experience is feeling a little fuller or gas in your tummy from all the extra fiber, just make sure to drink a ton of water and it shouldn't be a problem! It's only for 3 days!

I'm pretty happy with those! Best part, I feel like I'm completely on track again! I didn't even really miss the food I wasn't eating I was actually very surprised! So today I'll just continue with my clean eating menu! Even better than that, you can totally still workout on the Refresh, I did TurboFire which is a ton of cardio and I felt completely fine!
